Williams was fined for these comments here:

“The better he feels in the next couple of days, it helps the situation,” Williams said before Saturday’s game at the United Center. “But when you’re dealing with the brain, I guess what’s happening in football it’s impacted everybody. So he got touched up a little bit last night and I’m sure that happens a lot in basketball. It’s just that now you treat everybody like they have on white gloves and pink drawers. It’s just getting old, but it’s just the way the league is now.”

“I’m not saying I don’t like it; we’ve got to protect our players,” Williams said in Chicago. “I’m sure I had four or five concussions. When I played it didn’t bother me. The NBA is doing what’s necessary to protect the players but this is not the NFL. You don’t get hit in the head that much. I understand it, but as a coach I’m a baby about it. I want my guys ready to play.”

The comments came before the Hornets game against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, due to Anthony Davis not being able to travel due to a concussion he suffered in the previous game.

Monty Williams’ comments were not very harsh at all, but the NBA has a very strict policy when it comes to publicly challenging league rules and officials.

Williams was not the only person to receive a fine from the NBA on Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake was also fined $25,000. Blake’s fine was a little more deserving that Williams but apparently Steve Blake had some inappropriate choice words for a fan who simply told him to “you need to knock down those open shots”, during the Lakers loss to the Clippers.

Here is the video of Blake making an effort to have a not-so-friendly conversation with a fan sitting courtside:

Shortly after Anthony Davis was forced to miss the Hornets game against in Chicago on Friday, head coach Monty Williams had no problem expressing his feelings about the NBA concussion policy. Davis suffered a very mild concussion in Thursday’s game against the Jazz and will not be able to play again until he completes a series of test to determine he is ready. I’m sure by now Davis is eager to play and saying he is perfectly fine to get back on the court. Monty Williams wishes that were true:

“Now, they treat everybody like they have white gloves and pink drawers and it’s getting old. It’s just the way the league is now.”

“It’s a man’s game,” Williams said. “They’re treating these guys like they’re 5 years old. He desperately wanted to come (to Chicago), but he couldn’t make it.”

Monty Williams understands that policy is here to only protect the players and he admits to being selfish and just wants his players ready to play.

“I’m not saying I don’t like it. We’ve got to protect the players, but I think the players should have more say-so in how they feel. I’m sure I had four or five concussions when I played, and it didn’t bother me. The NBA is doing what’s necessary to protect the players, but this is not the NFL. You don’t get hit in the head that much. I understand it. But as a coach, I’m a baby about it. I want my guys ready to play.”

It is not clear how long Davis will be out but he should be ready to play by time the Hornets next game rolls around. They have a few days off before their next next game against the 76ers on November 7th.
