With 5:30 left in the first quarter in a 15-14 game, Anthony Davis left the game with a chest contusion and did not return. That was expected to be the main story line for New Orleans Pelicans in this game.

Instead, the Pelicans decided to catch fire shooting the ball. New Orleans shot 55.7% from the field in a huge win against the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-114. Ryan Anderson put on a long-range clinic, making eight three pointers in the game, while Tyreke Evans also put up a huge scoring night, leading the team with 31 points.

Anthony Davis had eight points on 4-4 shooting and one rebound before he left the game. The Pelicans originally listed him as questionable to return, yet he sat the rest of the contest out. LeBron led the Cavs with 41 points on 17-24 shooting.

Other Observations:

  • The second and third quarters were the tipping point of this game for New Orleans. The Pelicans outscored the Cavs 56-43 in those two quarters of play.
  • New Orleans shot a lot of three-pointers tonight and made their fare share. Along with Ryan Anderson’s 8-14 from the three-point line, the other Pelicans shot 4-14 from behind the arc. It’s not a great percentage, but respectable enough to pull out a victory.
  • Along with shooting hot from behind the arc, New Orleans got a lot of points in the paint. The Pelicans scored 56 points in the paint against the Cavs.
  • In a big surprise, the Pelicans made a statement against the Cavs bench. The Pelicans bench outscored the 49-18 in the game. This bench looks much more in-sync with the new additions and the strong play from Ryan Anderson.
  • New Orleans will look to take the momentum of this huge win into their next difficult game, as they go against the Golden State Warriors at home Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM CST.
