The New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Golden State Warriors Sunday night by a score of 122-128 . The Pelicans and Warriors traded blows a majority of the way, and with 2.5 seconds left in the game, Tyreke Evans missed a three point attempt that would have won the game for the Pelicans.
Once the game went into overtime, the Warriors took over. Stephen Curry hit all of the shots, and Tyreke Evans fouled out of the game with three minutes left in the extra period. The Warriors did their thing, and extended their winning streak to 16. The Pelicans tried, and came up short. If Anthony Davis had been in the game, they very well might have won this game.
Other Observations:
- The Pelicans first quarter showed a lot of what if’s for this team. The way they moved the ball, passed, and the way players moved without the ball makes me wonder if Monty Williams offensive strategy has been get Anthony Davis the ball in isolation more often than not this year. That is frustrating considering how good this teams offensive flow could be.
- We knew this already, but Luke Babbitt is not the answer at the small forward position if the team is looking for defense. Thankfully, I don’t think they are as of yet.
- Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday‘s first half’s were spectacular. They matched the Warriors guards in scoring, and seemed to answer the call when the team needed points at any point in time.
- Omer Asik doesn’t fit this teams MO when Anthony Davis isn’t on the court. His rim protection is nice, but he can’t hold onto rebounds. This could be cause for concern if AD is going to miss more time.
- The Pelicans committed their eighth turnover early in the fourth quarter. The Warriors committed seven in the third quarter alone.
- Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday both scored 30 points, giving the Pelicans three straight games with two 30 point scorers.
