The New Orleans Pelicans lost New Years Eve to the San Antonio Spurs, dropping back to .500 in the Western Conference. The game was highlighted by a Tim Duncan tip in with .7 seconds left in regulation, which many, including myself, thought Omer Asik tipped in. As for the summary of overtime, down by two points with 16 seconds to go, none other than Tyreke Evans dribbled the ball out above the left wing and hoisted a fade away three point attempt to try and steal the win. Anthony Davis was posting up on the left elbow from 12 seconds onward, and had just made an amazing cut to the basket to give his team the lead the possession before.
Other Observations:
- Tyreke Evans played 17 minutes in the first half, all of which were accompanied by big man Omer Asik. These two are not a polite pairing on the floor, seeing as how their games contradict each other on offense. Asik can’t drag his defender out of the paint, and Tyreke spends a majority of his time there, placing an extra body in front of him is not going to help his shooting percentage. Maybe Monty should think about changing up how the offense is run when Asik is in the game.
- Jimmer will probably start to see some of Austin Rivers minutes after tonight’s game. Monty is a fan of the hot hand, and it’s not a secret. Hopefully Jimmer can keep his shooting going.
- Anthony Davis is good at basketball, Omer Asik, not so much.
