After losing to the Philadelphia 76ers, 10 days ago it wasn’t a surprise to see the New Orleans Pelicans come out with some fire against Philly. With
Anthony Davisback in the lineup the Pelicans had the talent to dominate the Sixers and send a message to the rest of the league that New Orleans won’t have any let down in their home building.
Thanks to a monster night from Davis the Pelicans did just that, dominating Philly so badly in the first three quarters that no starter had to see the floor in the fourth on the way to a 99-74 victory.
Other observations:
- One of my favorite parts of Dante Cunningham‘s game is his cutting off the ball. Every night Cunningham darts into open space in the lane to catch a pass from a teammate in trouble and gets fouled or finishes inside. I still think he fits better off the bench than in the starting lineup long-term but for now the cutting is a huge boost for the Pelicans.
- Nights like tonight make Anthony Davis 5X5’s feel inevitable. The toughest part will probably be the assists but when AD is scoring like he did tonight defense have to shift even heavier towards him and he has outstanding court vision. It is really amazing how easy he makes things look.
- Tyreke Evans has done a wonderful job in the last two first halves of getting his teammates going. This is now two straight games of double-digit first half assists for Evans who has to take on a much bigger play making role with Jrue Holiday out. When guys like Davis and Gordon get going early it makes Evans life much easier in the second half and he seems to have found a great balance.
- There may not be such thing as too high a lob to Anthony Davis.
