Not much was expected of the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. Without Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday against a Los Angeles Clippers team that had entered the game on a six game winning streak.

More from Pelicans News

But the Pelicans hung around early thanks to some missed open looks from the Clipper and Eric Gordon took over the game to help the Pelicans come away with an incredible shorthanded 108-103 victory.

New Orleans Pelicans. ERIC GORDON. A+. For years Eric Gordon has been a source of plenty of frustration for Pelicans fans. Since his return from an injury though Gordon has been very good lately and tonight that continue with a dominating performance. It was a ton of fun to watch and had to feel great for Gordon. . SG

B-. Jimmer did what he had to do. Nothing more, nothing less.  . PG/SG. New Orleans Pelicans. JIMMER FREDETTE

New Orleans Pelicans. DANTE CUNNINGHAM. A. I still wish that he wouldn’t take so many long twos with his foot on or right next to the three-point line but Dante Cunningham is becoming a cutting master. The one to seal the game was basketball art.  . SF

Other observations:

  • What a wonderful win for New Orleans. With a tough stretch upcoming that features the Hawks, Thunder and Bulls the Pelicans found a way to steal a win they probably shouldn’t have had. In a tight playoff race every one of those type of wins matters.
  • DeAndre Jordan just kind of ignored Omer Asik on the offensive end of the floor tonight and clogged up the lanes. Luckily Tyreke Evans did a great job of attacking Jordan to draw him away form the rim anyway before finding teammates for easy looks. It was great.
  • The Pelicans return to action on Monday against a Hawks team that has won 18 in a row. New Orleans should lose, so expect a miracle win.
