Anthony Davis carries New Orleans Pelicans to hard fought win over Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks entered Monday night’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans with the NBA’s second best defensive efficiency. With that in mind and the Pelicans playing their fifth game in seven days it would have been easy to see how the Pelicans could struggle to score.

Then Anthony Davis stepped on the floor and made everything easy. Davis scored 43 points to go along with ten rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal to carry the Pelicans to a 114-103 win over a good Bucks team. Eric Gordon added 16 points and Tyreke Evans 13 before he left win an injury to help New Orleans climb closer to a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Other observations:

  • The Tyreke Evans injury sucks. Evans has been playing so well all season long and already down Jrue Holiday the Pelicans are now forced to rely on Norris Cole and Jimmer Fredette to handle the point guard duties for a bit. Hopefully Evans is ok and returns quickly.
  • The Pelicans late game offense was perfect. The team ran normal sets and found ways to get the ball into Anthony Davis’s hands in the flow of things and he delivered. When you have a weapon that good it is impossible to screw up if you just let him touch the ball.
  • This was a game that felt like a playoff type atmosphere. Both teams made runs, the crowd got into the game and things got physical. The Pelicans never wavered though which is a credit to the mental fortitude of the roster.
  • The was one of the most fun games of the year.
  • Turnovers were a problem but the Bucks are going to do that to teams because of their length and quickness. If the Pelicans do the same tomorrow it can be a problem but I don’t think that will happen.
