The History.

These two teams met four times this season with the Warriors taking the first three games and the Pelicans stealing the final one in the midst of their late season playoff push. In fact, the Pelicans hung with Golden State in three of the four games which should give them a bit of confidence heading into the playoff series.

  • The first game was the only game that wasn’t ever really competitive as the Warriors destroyed New Orleans 112-85. New Orleans actually led that game 28-22 after the first quarter before Golden State posted a dominant 31-12 second quarter and a 32-19 fourth quarter to take control of the game. The problem for the Pelicans in that game was that Anthony Davis, who had 30 of the Pelicans 85 points, got no help. Only Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday reached double figures for the Pelicans and the two only combined for 23 points on 30 shots.

Both of the next two games were played without Anthony Davis and the Pelicans fell 128-122 and 112-96, games that were much more competitive than expected without Davis. In the 128-122 game, Tyreke Evans scored 34 points to lead the Pelicans and Jrue Holiday added 30 as for one of the few times this season the Pelicans got a glimpse of how good the backcourt can be.

The fourth and final game was the most exciting as the Pelicans used a monster 29 point, 10 rebound performance and a few calls that went their way late to grab a 103-100 win. The game also added a bit of an edge to this series as an unnamed Warrior (that sure seems to be Draymond Green) reportedly mentioned that the game would be treated as a scrimmage by the Warriors. With that in mind expect this series to get a bit chippy early and probably often.

As for playoff history, well there is none. The two teams have never met in the postseason.
