The New Orleans Pelicans were set up for a fairly quiet offseason. With not a lot of cap room and the core of the roster locked in place, the only real intrigue the Pelicans faced was how much Omer Asik would be re-signed for. Then everything changed in an instant on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pelicans decided that head coach Monty Williams was not the man for the job in the long run and fired him with a year and an option left on his contract. The move came as a surprise after Williams and the rest of the organization received a letter of support from owner Tom Benson after making the playoffs despite a ton of injuries to the Pelicans core.

The move leaves the Pelicans with a lot to figure out between now and the opening of free agency in a few weeks as general manager Dell Demps will want to have a coach in place before making a decision on Asik and the rest of the Pelicans moves this summer.

With how important the news is to the future of the Pelicans, a few members of the Pelican Debrief staff got together for a Monty Williams related edition of a roundtable that touches on Monty’s tenure, if the move was the right one and a potential replacement.
