New Orleans Pelicans Logo Gets Redesigned in Graphic Designer Project

Often times in August posts and pictures will come out of new logos created by some type of graphic designer. Often times these types of designs are done based off of soccer kits, some type of pop culture or something else specific. Recently another designer produced a project where he redesigned each of the NBA teams logos in 30 days, and his New Orleans Pelicans logo is one of the more successful ones in recent memory.

The logos that the designer, Addison Foote, created can be found in a gallery here, but below is his redesigned Pelicans logo and an explanation from the blog.

"Pelicans…are not all that scary or fierce, but I did my best to portray a strong and determined bird while using a fleur de lis and type that represents the city of New Orleans."

The logo actually is a pretty cool one, especially using the gold as a background and primary color. The Pelican is actually pretty lifelike, as opposed to the more cartoonish logo the team has now. With the bird looking downward and staring intently with the eye one eye there is definitely some type of fierceness showing through.

Overall the redesign is much more successful than many of the others that have popped up recently, especially the Sporting News one. Really the entire gallery in general is great as Foote was able to update a few logos into modern times, though the Pelicans logo does seem to be in the top five of his new designs alongside his new Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors.

So what do you think about the logo redesign by Foote? Do you like it? Think he could have done something differently? Would you prefer the team adopted some facet of Foote’s design or do you like the current logo better? Let us know in the comment section below.
