Charles (@CLaRoccaJR): Tyreke Evans

In the thin history that is the Pelicans shooting guards, Tyreke Evans has proven to be the best basketball player of them all. The only problem is that some might not even consider him to be a two for New Orleans.

That is the enigma that as Tyreke Evans has proved he is capable of playing any position one through three and playing them all somewhat effectively. One thing that Tyreke stands above most Pelicans guards since joining New Orleans is his ability to actually stay on the court. When comparing to guards of the past like David Wesley or Maurice Peterson, Tyreke stands above them because of the versatility he has on the offensive end of the court.

Evans already has the third highest usage rate in the franchise short history; the only two above him are Chis Paul and Baron Davis not exactly bad company. Another factor that rates Reke as the best at his position is that this year when the Pelicans made the playoffs in a tough Western Conference he was unquestionably the team’s second best player.

Tyreke Evans is far from perfect though, he can be extremely fun to watch and other times he can be so frustrating and confusing. But all that aside its hard to scroll through the short chronicles of Pelicans history and find someone that matches Tyreke’s natural ability. Something that may hurt him is that some do not consider him to be a two guard. For the Pelicans this is his most natural position and the position he can excel the most . Before Jrue Holiday’s injury Tyreke was primarily used as a shooting guard and that where he will be if the team is at full health.

He played point guard last year out of necessity, but that should not be held against him when looking at his long term role with the franchise. If anything his versatility and ability to play multiple positions should be applauded. Tyreke Evans is the best shooting guard in franchise history. He has plenty career left and should build his resume even higher before all is said and done.
