Nathan (@NathanHeck22): Anthony Davis

I’m sure we all picked Anthony Davis to be the starter (I’m also pretty sure we all picked David West as the backup), and the reasoning is obvious. Anthony Davis is, I believe, the best player in the world right now, and he is only getting better. His dominance at such a young age is jaw-dropping. Last season, Davis averaged 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals AND he shot 53.5% from the field.

  • His shooting became almost video game efficient this past season. Anthony Davis shot 73.4% from 0-3 feet from the rim, 43.3% from 3-10 feet, 45.1% from 10-16 and 41.9% from 16 to the three-point line. According to reports, he is working on a corner three-point shot and his back to the basket game this offseason. If that’s the case, there may be absolutely no slowing him down, much less stopping him.

Anthony Davis is the perfect star for the New Orleans Pelicans. Obviously, he dominates the game we all love, but he also has a swagger that never feels cocky, the perfect parallel for the Crescent City. He has fire and plays with emotion, just like the musicians of the city he now is a symbol of. He has built local fan support to its highest level in team history. For the first time, it is not odd to see Pelicans apparel while out and about.

With Chris Paul, New Orleans had a player who could be mentioned in the conversation for the top 50 players ever. Anthony Davis will be mentioned as a potential top 10 player in league history (assuming he can stay healthy…I’m currently knocking on wood). This is an incredible opportunity for New Orleans hoops fans to see, in person, someone who can be remembered as one of the best ever.

We all need to make sure we appreciate it while it lasts.
