New Orleans Pelicans Player Grades: Pelicans Fall to Golden State Warriors

facebooktwitterreddit

The New Orleans Pelicans probably didn’t expect to open the season the way they did on Tuesday night. While winning the game was always going to be hard, New Orleans battled to stay close in the fist quarter before starting to fade after that and ultimately getting blown out. New Orleans was down 20 or more for most of the second half and to add insult to injury may have lost another player as Dante Cunningham found himself tested for a concussion following a third quarter collision with Andrew Bogut. All-in-all it was a night the Pelicans will surely want to forget as they fell 111-95.

B-. It actually felt like <strong><a href=. SG. New Orleans Pelicans. ERIC GORDON

F. It is hard to believe that this happened but when your best player shoots 1-15 from the floor through three quarters it becomes almost impossible to win games. <strong><a href=. PF/C. New Orleans Pelicans. ANTHONY DAVIS

C. <strong><a href=. PF/C. New Orleans Pelicans. RYAN ANDERSON

The defense wasn’t great but Cunningham made two threes which was a great sign. . SF. New Orleans Pelicans. DANTE CUNNINGHAM. B-

C. This was a brutal game for <strong><a href=. C. New Orleans Pelicans. ALEXIS AJINCA

A+. <strong><a href=. C. New Orleans Pelicans. KENDRICK PERKINS

C. <strong><a href=. SF. New Orleans Pelicans. ALONZO GEE

A. For a player that was officially added to the Pelicans roster on Monday, Smith played pretty well. He got inside and scored on offense, made life tougher on <strong><a href=. SF. New Orleans Pelicans. ISH SMITH

F. To say Stephen Curry treated Nate Robinson like a traffic cone in this game would be to mean to traffic cones. Nate was horrendous on defense and in areas where as a veteran he shouldn’t be. He was consistently lost and getting hung on screens which just cannot happen against a player like Curry. . SF. New Orleans Pelicans. NATE ROBINSON

Other observations:

  • This doesn’t matter in the long run. One loss is one loss and the Pelicans were never going 82-0. The nice thing is the team has a chance to bounce back right away as they head to Portland for their first back-to-back of the year on Wednesday.
  • Davis got going late which was a nice sign. He seemed visibly frustrated at points which is unlike him. Hopefully it carries over for the game in Portland.
  • Jrue Holiday not playing certainly impacted the game but the game also showed why Jrue is playing against the Blazers. Every win will matter for the Pelicans and the Blazers game is more winnable. Jrue should help that more than he could have against Golden State.
  • At least basketball is back.
