While the 2008 All-Star game was the first for the New Orleans franchise and had the backdrop of being the first major event since Hurricane Katrina, the 2014 All-Star game probable resonates a bit more with many current fans.
Yet again the weekend had plenty of New Orleans flair. From the fleur-de-lis inspired logos to the incredible halftime show full of Dr. John and Trombone Shorty, it was just a wonderful event.
And seriously, that halftime show. While the NBA has often done concerts and events right, this was perhaps the best they have ever done. The performance got rave reviews all over, especially as it happened on Twitter. It was so good that many deemed it the best sports related performance they have ever seen. It was great and deserves to be watched again and again.
As for the game, that was great as well. Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin led the Western Conference to a 163-155 win by scoring 38 points a piece and Anthony Davis, New Orleans’ own young superstar, made his All-Star Game debut with 10 points in nine minutes.
It was a wonderful night that put New Orleans on the big stage once again and proved that when the NBA wants to throw a party there is only one right place to go.
