After making their way through three quarters of the regular season, the New Orleans Pelicans find themselves out of the playoff hunt and stricken with a multitude of injuries.

The third quarter of the regular season was a tough one for the New Orleans Pelicans, and the staff at Pelican Debrief took the time to answer some questions about the team and season. In really the Pelicans’ last chance to make a push for the playoffs, the team faltered, and once again, injuries can be blamed for a significant amount of the woes.

Tyreke Evans required another knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the season. Omer Asik sprained his ankle and missed 5 games. Eric Gordon fractured his finger, missed 16 games and re-fractured his finger again after playing in just five contests. Anthony Davis missed a game with a big toe sprain. Bryce Dejean-Jones went out for the season after breaking his wrist within days of signing his new contract. Alexis Ajinca fractured his sternum after catching an elbow from Dwight Howard. If it feels like the list never ends, it is because, when including Quincy Pondexter, over a third of the team missed playing time in the third quarter of the season.

The trade deadline dominated the discussion during this stretch, and the Pelicans only made one minor move. By not trading Eric Gordon or Ryan Anderson, questions linger about what the long-term plans are for the New Orleans Pelicans. The staff answered questions about whether the Pelicans made the right decision and who could possibly be back next season.

On a brighter note, Anthony Davis set the franchise record for points scored in a game against the Detroit Pistons by scoring 59 points. In addition to his scoring, Davis also pulled in 20 rebounds, and he was dominant in all facets of the game. The writers made their case as to how long the record will stand.
