New Orleans Pelicans: Three teams who could trade for Tyreke Evans
By Nathan Heck
Brooklyn Nets
If the New Orleans Pelicans feel that Tyreke Evans did some sort of irreparable harm to the franchise, the club could always get back at Evans by sending him to where all good careers go to die, Brooklyn.
Understanding why Brooklyn would want a player like Evans on their roster is not hard to comprehend. If the Nets traded for him, a deal would show to the league and the fans that the Nets are looking to actually enter the realm of respectability for the first time in a few seasons. His instant offense would give the team (some) firepower to actually compete on the hardwood.
In all seriousness, the Nets are not the dumpster fire they were just a year ago. With a promising new general manager and head coach running the organization, the Nets look to be at least making an effort to be a decent team after selling their future (and probably their souls) for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in the not so distant past.
Tyreke Evans would pair pleasantly with Brook Lopez, assuming the Nets don’t look to trade their only real asset, in much the same way he would with Marc Gasol. Lopez, like the big Spaniard, is a rangy center that rebounds the ball well on the offensive end.
The road block for this deal is really on the Pelicans’ end: what would Brooklyn actually give New Orleans? Outside of Lopez, the team only posses a handful of reasonably talented players, and it is unlikely the Pelicans would be highly interested in any of them. Without their draft picks, Brooklyn has next to nothing to offer, and that could very well prevent a deal like this from ever taking place.
Does it have to be this way?
Of course, the New Orleans Pelicans could keep Tyreke Evans. After all, isn’t this a whole lot of fun?
How about this?
There’s always this.
It’s important to keep in mind that Tyreke Evans is a much more productive player than many in the community would lead you to believe. Keeping him on the roster may be the best move going forward.
Next: Tyreke Evans, it's complicated
If the New Orleans Pelicans look to move on from the slashing combo guard, their best chances of making a deal may very well come from picking up the phone and calling either the Memphis Grizzlies, Utah Jazz or Brooklyn Nets.
