Getting to know New Orleans Pelicans’ Langston Galloway
Galloway is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana
In 2010, Langston Galloway finished his senior year of High School at Christian Life Academy in Baton Rouge on a high note. His team ended up winning the school’s fourth state championship in its previous five seasons.
But his history in the New Orleans area goes much deeper than that. Oil drilling deep.
Larry Galloway, Langston’s father, was a full time employee of Exxon for 38 years in Southern Louisiana. He had been a NBA hopeful with the Julius Erving-led Nets, but soon became a member of the New Orleans Jazz after the NBA and ABA merged.
He opted to take the full time route at Exxon rather than the unpredictability of another NBA training camp in 1978. Back in those days Exxon’s yearly salary of $45,000 a year matched that of a NBA contract. Things sure have changed since then. After that, the rest is history.
He and his wife Jeralyn gave birth to Langston in 1991.
And New Orleans is certainly glad to have him. Langston will even be teaching a free clinic to students in grades 5th-12th this coming August 6th.
