The New Orleans Pelicans could not capitalize on momentum from Monday’s win, as their flat play cost them in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Things looked up for the New Orleans Pelicans, after their fantastic victory against the Cavs Monday night.

Unfortunately, the momentum hit a screeching halt.

The Pelicans came out flat Wednesday night and, other than one inspired run late, played flat the entire game. It cost them, as they fell at home to the Oklahoma City Thunder 114-105.

New Orleans gave up a frustrating 64 points in the first half, while only scoring 45 of their own. Oklahoma City completely dominated the paint for the entire game, even when the Pelicans attempted to go big.

The worst news came in the second half, when Anthony Davis left the game with a right thigh bruise, the same one he injured just a few games ago. He would not return to the game and his status will likely be questionable at best for Friday’s game.

New Orleans did get one strong push in the final stretches of the game. After being down as many as 22, the Pels cut the deficit to as little as five in the final five minutes of the game. However, the offense fell flat to end the game and the loss was set in stone.

E’Twaun Moore finished the game as the top scoring threat, with 18 points on 6-9 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds in the contest. Jrue HolidayTyreke Evans and Solomon Hill all finished with 14 points of their own. Davis finished with eight points and five boards before his injury.

Russell Westbrook pulled off his 23rd triple-double of the season and 60th of his career, pushing him on fifth on the all-time list of career trip-dubs. Westbrook had 27 points, 12 rebounds and ten assists.

Other Observations:

  • There is a problem with consistency on the New Orleans Pelicans. The first game was against the Brooklyn Nets, where they gave up 143 points. Then, they put up an inspired performance versus the Cavaliers, without their superstar. Now, with all the momentum and Davis returning, they looked completely flat and dominated. This is something that needs to be worked on. The Pelicans need to come out ready to win every single game. While they finally found the fire late in the second half, that will not cut it against the better NBA teams. Plain and simple.
