With Kyle Lowry publicly announcing that he is opting out of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, are the New Orleans Pelicans a potential suitor for his services?
The New Orleans Pelicans are still searching for a point guard in free agency. That is, if Jrue Holiday does not return. However, there is a new free agent on the market.
He’s pretty good too.
Since the defeat this past Sunday against the demolition crew who are the Cleveland Cavaliers, there have been rumblings out of Toronto that Kyle Lowry will be testing free agency this summer.
Well, those rumors are true. On Monday, Kyle Lowry informed the NBA world that he will be opting out of his contract. He will test the waters of the upcoming NBA free agency.

The Raptors can offer him a max deal, with a 5th year worth over $200 million dollars. However, whispers around NBA circles aren’t so sure that the club is readily to commit to that deal.
Granted Kyle, along with NBA stud DeMar DeRozan, did bring the Toronto Raptors back to prominence. That is after reaching the playoffs for a second year in a row, with over 50 wins in each of those seasons. These achievements can not go unrecognized. However, are the Raptors going to commit to retaining him for that much against the cap?
Here comes the idea of the Pelicans being a potential suitor.
With rumors of Jrue Holiday leaving for greener pastures, the franchise is in business of searching for a lead guard. Kyle Lowry can be a much suitable replacement, with his offensive ability and command of the floor.
Despite talks of his age, he still plays at a very high level. Last season, he averaged 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds per game. Now, he has injury concerns over the course of the year. Still, that can be healed with proper rehab and treatment, over the course of this offseason.
When he went up against the New Orleans Pelicans in the past, he’s put up highlight reels.
Overall, Kyle Lowry is an All-Star and deserves much credit for leading the Toronto Raptors to the most success they’ve had as a franchise. He’s a phenomenal player and most importantly, a team-first guy.
If Jrue Holiday decides to move on, it is easy to get on board going after Lowry and adding him to the New Orleans Pelicans’ team core. With much respect to what the Toronto Raptors have built over the past 2-3 seasons, Kyle will be playing alongside two of the best big men in the league and a coaching staff that preaches consistent ball-movement.
