Will Pelicans Big Men Duo Join This List of NBA History’s Best?
By Justin Jett
#2 Kevin McHale & Robert Parish
Kevin McHale played literally his entire career with Robert Parish. Although McHale would eventually settle into the 6th man role, he still played the majority of minutes at power forward and is widely regarded as one of the best power forwards of all time.
His 26 points per game 9.9 rebound per game 2.2 blocks per game on 60.4% shooting is one of the best statistical seasons ever. Parish and McHale also get a boost playing alongside Larry Bird who helped the Celtics remain in contention for nearly his entire career.
The two big men anchored their defense and McHale provided consistent scoring off the block. The duo won a staggering 100 playoff games together and also appeared in five NBA Finals, winning three.
Who knows what those Celtics teams would have looked like without this combo wreaking havoc down low. It’s quite possible that Boston never becomes the historically great team they ultimately become.
The Pels’ duo will likely never achieve the type of success that this front court saw as they just won so much for so long. Their skill sets also nicely complemented one another during that time making them a force no one wanted to face.
