The Smoothie King Arena isn’t the greatest or most intimidating of names for an NBA arena. With one of the most important seasons in recent memory coming up, we figured that the Pelicans were in desperate need of a great nickname for the building in which they play. Instead, I came up with ridiculous ones, with only a few exceptions.

King Cake Baby’s Birthplace

All hail the shockingly large headed and uniquely intelligent King of all cakes or is it King of all babies? Are “King Cakes” the sugary food item suggesting they own a baby?

Anyway, the freakily large figure is a staple of New Orleans Pelicans basketball and we should just go one step further and nickname the arena after the mascot who rips fear through the hearts of the Pelicans’ enemies.

King Cake Baby’s Birthplace would be a place to dread.

BBB (Boogie-Brow-Building)

Words that begin with “B” are really in vogue in 2017 and it just so happens that the New Orleans Pelicans have two players with nicknames that start with that letter.

The Pelicans may run into problems with trademarks and such but this couldn’t be more culturally appropriate.

Also, who doesn’t love a good acronym?

You know who does?

Literally millions of cell phone using Americans.

The Marsh

A nod to Louisana’s great Bayou without being too on the nose and strictly calling it so. Swamps can be scary places, many of which are the settings of horror films.

When other teams come to New Orleans, they get swallowed by The Marsh.

The Birds Nest

The Pelicans home, a nest.

The Shell

Birds are born into this world out of shells, egg shells. Their first homes. They are also extremely strong items that take months to crack out of and deter enemies from attempting to eat.

These Pelicans, while not having dominant home teams, at least attempt to deter their opponents from beating them.
