Every week we take a look back at the week that was and evaluate what occurred and what may occur in the future for the New Orleans Pelicans.
Playing bad teams in the NBA is like shopping for fruit. Most of the time, you’re going to get exactly what you’re looking for. You’re going to enjoy something sweet and natural.
You don’t get to try food out like clothing before making a purchase so you likely won’t ever attempt to return fruit. Because of this, sometimes, you bite into what you are hoping is going to be an enjoyable food item and you get the exact opposite.
It’s too bland, it’s not crisp, and it went bad much too early. So early you wonder how it could last so long in transport to your grocery store but not in the few days it sits in your dining room. It leaves you unsatisfied.
Playing bad teams in the NBA is like this because if your team does not eviscerate said bad team, that is exactly how you feel.
Unsatisfied.
The Pelicans had two very unsatisfying wins this week. The first to a Dallas Mavericks team that is playing a bunch of young guys and one very unyoung guy. Their team has just one win yet the Pelicans won by just five points.
The Pels then played the very next night against a Chicago Bulls team who has just two wins. It took overtime for NOLA to finally come out the victor.
Instead of feeling refreshed following these games, most fans just felt slightly worse about their favorite team.
This is the perils of playing lackluster opponents. The Pels are, however, now .500 and basically right in the middle of the hunt for the playoffs. Although this week was like grabbing a bland watermelon, wins, no matter how distasteful, are still marked down the same in the standings.
