A Christmas Wish List For All Five Pelicans Starters

Jrue Holiday: A Win While Playing His Best
As alluded to in the previous slide, Jrue Holiday has played quite well in the early stages of this season. After signing Holiday to a five-year, $126 million deal this summer, the Pelicans expected big things in return. Although the season started off a bit shaky, it appears as though the veteran has in fact proven his worth to the franchise. With season averages of 18 PPG, 5.6 APG and 4.5 RPG it would appear Holiday has been a catalyst to many of the teams 15 wins so far this season.
Oddly enough, however, this is not the case.
This season, Holiday’s best performances have all come in losing efforts. This includes a 34 point, 11 assist and five rebound game against Toronto, a 34 point, four assist and six rebound contest against Golden State and, most recently, a 37 point, five assist and four boards stat-line against the Houston Rockets.
According to ESPN.com, statistical averages point to better individual performances for Holiday in games lost rather than games won. In Pelicans victories Holiday averages 16.7 PPG, 5.7 APG and 3.9 RPG. In losing efforts, the 27-year old posts a stat-line of 19.5 PPG, 5.5 APG and 5 RPG. While there is no clear-cut reason behind this interesting factoid, an answer to this problem should be found, and soon. Having your best games all coming in losing efforts will eventually take its toll on a player.
This Christmas, Holiday’s ideal present would have to be a team win coupled with a solid all-around individual performance. If anything, it would be for moral purposes.
