Nike has taken over the rights to create NBA jerseys and they have wasted no time in making them their own. One part of this jersey takeover is whats going to be an annual jersey release that they are calling their “City Edition” jerseys.

Each jersey has some connection to the city or team’s past or future, many of which are quite beautifully done and a few that aren’t.

The Pelicans jerseys are a nod to their past with loud purple, green, and gold coloring.

Nike had this to say about the reason behind the jersey’s color and design, “Bold colors represent power, faith and justice, and ‘dancing’ numbers reproduce the city’s energy. The neckline takes inspiration from classic Carnival ducal decoration.  These uniforms are only worn during the Carnival season.”

You can check out the jerseys below and figure out whether or not you are into this year’s version of the “City Edition” jerseys.

The reaction to the jerseys has been a mixed bag. Some people have applauded the tipping of the cap to the past while others believe the colors and scheme feel exceedingly outdated.

Nike will continue to push the boundaries of jersey makeup and if you are not a fan of this year’s attempt, they will be back again next season with what will probably be a completely different look. Let us know what you think about this year’s attempt, however!
