All-Time New Orleans Pelicans Starting-Five
By Mark Nilon
Anthony Davis, PF, 2012-
Hornets/ Pelicans Statistics: 23.0 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 1.8 APG, 2.3 BPG
The last player to be drafted by the New Orleans Hornets, Anthony Davis already might be the best to have ever suited up for the franchise. If he isn’t now, you better believe he will be! Not only is he one of the best to play for the organization, Davis is one of the best players the game has to offer today.
Since coming into the NBA in 2012, Davis’ game, along with his eyebrow, have been revered by basketball players and fans alike. Right off the bat, Davis showed the world that he was a franchise-altering player. In his rookie season Davis, in a mere 28.8 MPG, averaged 13.5 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.2 APG and an impressive 1.8 BPG. With this, he found himself second in the running for Rookie of the Year as well as receiving first team All-Rookie honors. From this point on, Davis would only continue to improve.
In his sophomore year, the Brow upped his totals in every statistical category imaginable. He increased his scoring by seven points, rebounds by two and blocks by one (league leader that season). With his improved game, Davis found himself playing in his first All-Star game.

The next season, Davis again found a way to build upon the previous year, improving his statistics in virtually every category. However, not only were his individual statistics impressive, but the team as a whole managed to play quite well with one another, winning 45 games that season and, ultimately, reaching the playoffs for the first time in four years. Although the Pelicans were inevitably swept by the eventual champions the Golden State Warriors, the series was by no means a “breeze” for the Dubs. The reason for this was specifically due to Davis’ sensational play. In four games AD put up INSANE averages of 31.5 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 2.0 APG and 3.0 BPG.
Now, six years into his career, Davis is either at the top, or close to the top, of a majority of New Orleans’ All-Time records including points (first), blocks (first) and rebounds (first) to name a few. At just 24 years of age, it appears as though Anthony Davis is far from done with his already illustrious career. If he chooses to stay in New Orleans for the rest of his playing days, baring injury, there should be no doubt that he will finish as the franchises best player of all-time. However, even at this very moment, one could seriously argue he already is!
