The New Orleans Pelicans Twitter beef with Skip Bayless
By Joshua Lea
The New Orleans Pelicans are taking on the San Antonio Spurs tonight. This after some comments by Fox Sports One host and Spurs fan Skip Bayless said Anthony Davis was overrated.
The New Orleans Pelicans and the NBA all thrive off of Twitter. In fact, I honestly believe Twitter survives financially solely off of NBA Twitter. Of course, the New Orleans Pelicans like every NBA team have their own personal social media accounts on all platforms. Although, the sports world as a whole always seems to take to Twitter before, during, and after games to tweet about what they think and or see.
Sometimes, a single tweet can cause what’s called “Twitter storm” resulting in a massive collection of people discussing the tweet. Recently, Fox Sports One host Skip Bayless tweeted out “Anthony Davis is the most overrated player in basketball. Now on @undisputed“.
Naturally, Pelicans fans laughed at Skip. This is his personal opinion and he is using his platform to speak his opinion. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, Davis has been a monster since the injury to DeMarcus Cousins. The numbers prove that. The Pelicans Twitter account is making sure Skip knows that as well.
Skip Bayless defends himself but misses the point
Since then, Bayless has circled back on his comments made about Anthony Davis tweeting his reasoning for calling Davis overrated.
"“My issue with Anthony Davis for the last 3 years has been that all his fantasy-basketball stats don’t translate into winning. Thru his 1st 5 NBA years, LeBron had 26 playoff wins w/ “no help.” Thru AD’s 1st 5 years, ZERO playoff wins. Too many empty calories. AD isn’t That Guy.” – Skip Bayless"
First off, you’re comparing Anthony Davis’ first five years to LeBron James‘ first five years. Ok, James plays in the East and Davis plays in the West. The Western Conference is a tougher conference with more superstars. You cannot compare the two.
Secondly, Davis is a completely different player than James. James thrives off having the ball in his hands, he plays almost all five positions at different points of a certain game.
Davis is a power forward/center he cannot play the point guard position. He doesn’t play a shooting guard/small forward position either. The logic just doesn’t add up. James can take over a game and do everything, Davis needs a system and a guard to deliver him the ball in his spots.

The Pelicans Twitter account is posting a variety of stats surrounding Davis’ huge month. They are also referring to Rajon Rondo as a “point God”. Tonight’s game is going to be widely discussed tomorrow morning as Bayless is an avid San Antonio Spurs fan. The New Orleans Pelicans Twitter account holder knows this and I would imagine Davis knows this as well.
However, since Bayless made the claim that Davis is overrated, more and more media members suggest he’s becoming an MVP candidate. The irony that Bayless would call him overrate prior to his 53 point outburst against the Suns is well written.

If the New Orleans Pelicans beat the San Antonio Spurs tonight, I would fully expect someone from the Pelicans Twitter team to make sure Skip Bayless knows. I would also tune in to his show tomorrow to see if he mentions the loss.
