New Orleans Pelicans: Third Term Report Cards

New Orleans Pelicans: B+, Situational A
For those of you incredibly confused, let me explain.
Yes, the Pelicans record has been fourth in the league (14-6) in their third quarter, which would usually warrant an ‘A’ grade. However, during this time, they have only produced 15th in the league net-rating, at 1.2.
That’s how they earn the ‘B+’ grade. Despite 14-6 sounding terrific, the 1.2 net-rating brings them down to Earth. The latter number is a bit better than what one would expect of the Pelicans preseason.
With that being said, they earn the situational ‘A,’ as sporting this record without their second best player is amazing. After the Boogie down (see what I did there), many, including myself, had the Pelicans out of the playoffs. The Clippers and Jazz were on the way up and, without Cousins, it would be hard to fight them off. However, this proved to be an ‘I told ya so’ moment for “Pelievers” (see what I tried there AGAIN), as even a 1.2 net-rating was better than most expected.

Hopefully the Pels can keep this up, and get a top four playoff seed, giving them home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
