New Orleans Pelicans receive blessing from Lil B Tha BasedGod

Last night, the New Orleans Pelicans beat the San Antonio Spurs and now have a date with the Portland Trailblazers for the first-round of the NBA Playoffs.

The New Orleans Pelicans are in the playoffs for the first time since 2015. If the good people of New Orleans aren’t celebrating yet, there’s one more reason they should be. Now, I realize not all NBA fans are going to know or care who Lil B is. If you do not know, allow me to educated you.

Lil B Tha BasedGod is a musician from Berkeley California.  He has released six albums including Black Ken (Link is NSFW) that was released last year. However, he is much more than that. He has 1.53 million followers on Twitter and followers 1.68 million people. He is considered by many as the voice of this generation.

If you’re a sports fan you might remember Lil B has the guy who put a curse on NBA players like Kevin Durant and James Harden for various reasons. Durant said Lil B’s music was “Trash” and James Harden was cursed for stealing the chef cooking motion he does after he makes big shots.

Now, some might be wondering if Lil B being mention means he put a curse on Anthony Davis or the Pelicans. No, as a matter of fact, he did not. What he did do is offer his blessing to the Pelicans in the NBA playoffs.

As someone who loves music of all kinds and follows Lil B on my personal Twitter account @joshualeaa, I was excited, to say the least. I did what any other social media savvy person would do in this situation. I quote the tweet from @pelicandebrief and typed in all cap “THIS IS NOT A DRILL!”

In these types of situations, you generally don’t expect to hear back from a celebrity. Lil B tweeted at us directly saying “THIS IS REAL.” This is exciting, the Pelicans have a shot to beat Portland.

Portland tweeted about this themselves and put “Cold world.” No hard feelings to Rip City. I celebrated my 21st birthday in Portland. From what I can remember, it was a blast.

The NBA playoffs will begin Saturday. For New Orleans, game one against Portland is Saturday night. Here’s to Lil B and his blessing as New Orleans looks to make some noise in the postseason. Sometimes in life, we get a chance to meet people who have influenced us. It’s always a special moment. I only hope to be able to influence others the same way Lil B does.
