Anthony Davis Named To All-NBA First Team For The Third Time In His Career

A day after being named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team, Anthony Davis has yet again been intertwined with the leagues best. This time, however, it is in regards to all-around play. For the third time in his career “The Brow” has been named the All-NBA First Team.

The 2018 All-NBA First Team has been announced. Recipients of this distinction include Damian Lillard (POR), James Harden (HOU), Lebron James (CLE), Kevin Durant (GSW) and, of course, Anthony Davis (NOP). With this, NOLA’s “pride and joy” is eligible for a big contract extension in the summer of 2019. How big you ask? Well, as Oleh Kosel of The Bird Writes will tell you, it could be VERY big.

“…in the summer of 2019, Davis will be eligible and the DPE [Designated Players Extension] will be on the table if he makes another All-NBA team in the next two seasons, wins two of the next three DPOY or takes home one of the next three MVP trophies”, Oleh writes. “In 2019-20, AD is currently scheduled to earn a little over $27 million. If he qualifies for the DPE at that time, it would trigger a potential maximum of 35% of the salary cap. He would be looking at a four-year extension that would net him just over $38 million (based on predicted $109 million salary cap) for 2019-20 instead!”

The potential for this huge contract extension should be a joyous truth to hear for both fans and Davis alike. For fans, it means the Pelicans will be the only team eligible to offer him such a contract. Because of this, it can only improve the franchises chances of retaining the über talented big. For Davis, it means his current contract of $145 million would appear to be mere pennies if he becomes eligible. It appears to be a win-win for the fanbase and their star-player.

In 2017-18 Davis recorded arguably his best statistical season as a pro. Through 75 games the 25-year-old managed to average 28.1 PPG, 11.1 RPG and 2.6 BPG (league leader). Keep grinding AD!
