Desire To Become “The Man”

When DeMarcus Cousins was healthy this past season, the question as to who was “Batman or Robin” between him and Anthony Davis was one the media liked to ponder on. Now, with the MVP caliber season Davis had, there should be no question as to who the Dark Knight of New Orleans is.

Add in the fact that Jrue Holiday had a career year, and we may be viewing Boogie as no greater than Alfred (shout out to Alfred). By Cousins staying in New Orleans, he very well could find himself as low as the third option on the team behind AD and Holiday. While this shouldn’t necessarily push a player out the door, sometimes ego can get in the way of what’s really important, which is winning.

Some players need the satisfaction of being “the man” in an organization. We’ve seen this mindset come into play on multiple occasions throughout the years; Amare Stoudemire inking a deal with the New York Knicks back in 2010, Dwight Howard signing with the Houston Rockets in 2013, Kyrie Irving being traded to the Boston Celtics last summer at his own request. It’s just something some players need; top-dog recognition.

If Boogie decides to stay put in New Orleans, the chances of him being seen as the teams best player will most certainly cease to exist. However, should he want this specific label, maybe heading elsewhere would be his best course of action.
