After only 13 games, the Houston Rockets have parted ways with 10 time all-star Carmelo Anthony. With the New Orleans Pelicans forever looking to solidify the small forward position, should they give him a shot?

If all good things must come to an end, then certainly all bad things must as well. There is no real word to describe Carmelo Anthony’s stint with the Rockets but to say it was brief. And now it is over. But should the New Orleans Pelicans give him a shot?

This of course is not breaking news. For more than a week speculation has spread that the Rockets and Anthony would be parting ways. This even caused Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer to speculate that the Pelicans may be interested in Anthony’s services.

"“I heard three teams I think it can be for Melo, and this could change—I mean, he’s still with Houston—New Orleans, Portland and the L.A. Lakers. Those are the three teams I heard.”"

That is in contrast to how some of the local writers feel about the chances of Carmelo Anthony coming to the Crescent City. Will Guillory from The Athletic says there is no chance of this happening.

Should a 10  time all-star and former scoring champion not be considered when adding potential talent to your team? In this case the Pelicans should pass. Offense is not the issue the Pelicans face. They are top 5 in the league in scoring.

The issue has been on the opposite end of the court as the team ranks in the bottom five in points allowed a game giving up more than 115 points a contest. Does Carmelo solve any of those issues? Most certainly not.

The Pelicans issues this season can be most attributed  to the fact they cannot stay healthy, The Pelicans have been at full strength for only 5 games this season as starters Anthony Davis, Nikola Mirotic, and Elfrid Payton have all missed multiple game. The Pelicans are 4-1 when fully healthy.

This points to this being a good team when all hands are on deck. Unfortunately, this has not been the case, but the Pels are hopeful this will be the case sooner rather than later as Payton is expected back possibly by the weekend.

Next. New Orleans Pelicans are a mediocre team. dark

Carmelo is a sure fire hall of famer. His resume speaks for itself. However, everything that may be good is not good for you. This is the case with Carmelo and the Pelicans. They should take one look and then fly away.
