Option 2: Phoenix Suns
In this scenario, the Pelicans pick up a late first round draft pick via Milwaukee this year, and the Suns’ first rounder next year. The Suns would be banking on their draft pick being less valuable next season with the combination of Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker, and DeAndre Ayton hopefully being able to make some noise in 2019-2020.
The Pelicans return 3 guys who are 25 years old or younger. TJ Warren is a very good scorer that is locked up on a cheap enough contract through the 2021-2022 season. Josh Jackson has disappointed in his career so far since being the #4 overall draft pick in 2017, but he’s still only 21 years old. New Orleans would hope a change of scenery benefits him.
Finally, rookie Mikal Bridges also joins the roster, who was the best player on a Villanova team that won two national championships. He is the most intriguing piece here (aside from the potentially high draft pick in 2020) and could turn into a focal point for the Pelicans in the coming years.
