Ranking the first batch of New Orleans Pelicans’ GM candidates

2. Gersson Rosas – Houston’s VP of Basketball Operations
Here’s another candidate coming from an organization that has been among the league’s best in recent years. Having a prominent role in the construction of a team like Houston’s success is just that much more impressive. That’s exactly what Gersson Rosas has done. General Manager Daryl Morey has done a great job building the Rockets from afterthought to perennial contender in a loaded Western Conference.
However, it is not Morey alone who is responsible for the rise of the team. Rosas assists Morey in every move that is made within the organization. He’s enjoyed success within that role for the last five seasons. He also has had a brief stint as a General Manager in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks before. However, that only lasted a few months due to a lack of clarity with the front office.
Rosas has been around the NBA game for nearly two decades, seeing the game evolve and adapting with the times. The Houston Rockets represent what today’s game has become; the high influx of three-point shooting with a mixture of guys that can penetrate and kick it to open wings. And if that fails, a dominant pick-and-roll center that has the athleticism to finish around the rim steps in. His insight could be just what the Pelicans need for their rebuild.
