Lottery teams that could trade #1 overall pick for Pelicans’ Anthony Davis
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves were expected to make strides towards becoming serious contenders when now former President of Basketball Operations Tom Thibodeau was hired in 2016. Not only was Thibodeau’s tenure a failure, but he also set the franchise back considerably when he dealt Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, and the seventh pick in the 2017 NBA draft, which turned out to be Lauri Markkanen for Jimmy Butler.
Now, the Wolves are trying to climb out of that hole, and while Zion Williamson could be the missing piece, a deal for Davis would allow them to pair him with star center Karl-Anthony Towns while also trading the disappointing former Rookie of The Year, Andrew Wiggins. Although Wiggins never had Zion levels of hype during his time at Kansas, he was hailed as one of the most prolific high school basketball players of all time and often received praise from NBA players including Laker legend Kobe Bryant, who described Wiggins as “a reflection of myself 19 years ago.”
Williamson would be an excellent get for the Wolves, but after a disappointing experience with Wiggins, the Timberwolves should be aggressive in trading the Duke sensation for a bonafide superstar in Davis. If the Pelicans engage in trade discussions, the Timberwolves would have to include Williamson, Wiggins, Dario Šarić, Robert Covington, and draft compensation.
