2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 1.0 – Pelicans take 3-and-D wing
#12. Charlotte Hornets: Sekou Doumbouya, F
School: Limoges CSP | Class: International | Height: 6’9″ | Weight: 230 | Age: 18
Sekou Doumbouya didn’t start playing basketball till he was 12 years old, so he would be a prospect that is still very raw if the Charlotte Hornets decided to select him 12th overall. Regardless, he’s an athletic wing with good size and has the skills to become an explosive two-way player in the NBA.
As a native of Guinea, he’s not as well known in America at the moment compared to some of his counterparts in the NBA Draft. However, rest assured that Doumbouya would take immediate measures to put his name on the map as soon as possible if he’s given the chance to shine in the NBA.
The Hornets have needed help on the wing for a while now. Nic Batum is either always hurt or simply not living up to the expectations of his large contract. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist essentially found himself out of the rotation in Charlotte during this, his 7th year in the NBA.
Sekou Doumbouya could be a wise choice to help take away some of the sting of two other wings not panning out for the Charlotte Hornets. If given the right type of opportunity, he could turn into a great role player in Charlotte despite flying under a lot of radars for the time being. With Kemba Walker also potentially leaving in free agency this summer, the Hornets need to hit on this selection.
