2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 1.0 – Pelicans take 3-and-D wing
#14. Boston Celtics (Via Sacramento Kings): Bol Bol, C
School: Oregon | Class: Freshman | Height: 7’2″ | Weight: 222 | Age: 19
The Boston Celtics are notoriously rich with assets and young talent. In this particular NBA Draft, Danny Ainge’s squad is positioned to own a whopping 3 first round draft picks to do with as they please.
This is where things get tricky in regards to these Boston picks. Since the beginning of the Anthony Davis trade request drama, the Celtics have been discussed as a potential landing spot for AD. They’ve even been rumored to include their most prized prospect in Jayson Tatum in a transaction if the New Orleans Pelicans want to get a deal done.
When you factor in the potential for Boston and New Orleans to shake hands on a deal at any moment, it’s reasonable to expect the Celtics to have anywhere from 3 to 0 first round picks depending on if they send any or all of them away for a player like Anthony Davis.
But for the sake of a mock draft, we must assume that the Celtics will actually be using all of the picks they currently own until we are told otherwise. So all of that said, this could be where we finally see Bol Bol, son of NBA legend Manute Bol, hear his name get called by Adam Silver.
Bol Bol is a great shot blocker like his dad, but he can also absolutely shoot the lights out. He finished the season at 52% from three point range, which is absurd for anyone, let alone a 7’2″ big man. It was a small sample size for Bol, as he only played in 9 total games, but it’s pretty clear that his offensive skillset is unicorn-levels of awesome.
His biggest question mark is whether or not his thin frame can hold up in the modern NBA. If so, Boston could nail this pick at #14, the final selection of the lottery.
