2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 1.0 – Pelicans take 3-and-D wing
#7. New Orleans Pelicans: De’Andre Hunter, F
School: Virginia | Class: Sophomore | Height: 6’7″ | Weight: 223 | Age: 21
Here we are. The New Orleans Pelicans were one of the most talked about and most disappointing teams this season. Anthony Davis wants out. General Manager Dell Demps got fired in the middle of the season. Questions lurk around every corner in regards to the future of this organization that desperately needs some stability.
Enter De’Andre Hunter, member of the 2018-2019 NCAA Champion Virginia Cavaliers.
Hunter spent a lot of time as a guard in college, but his lanky 6’7″ frame would likely see him on the wing for the New Orleans Pelicans. This is totally fine, as Hunter is the type of player that can torch the opponent from distance, or create a lane to the hoop when necessary. He shot an awesome near-44% from three point land in his sophomore season, and was also a major defensive cog in the NCAA tournament’s best defensive team.
For the Pelicans, getting better defensively should be one their main focus points as they look to get themselves back on track next year. They had one of the better offenses in the league for most of 2018-2019, but finished the season with the eighth worst defense in the entire league. Hunter could help a lot in this area.
The New Orleans Pelicans need three point shooting. They need defense. They need consistency. De’Andre Hunter totally fits the bill for the Pels at #7.
