Pelicans Free Agency: Which players should New Orleans bring back?
The New Orleans Pelicans have some decisions to make in free agency. Which players should the team offer new contracts to this summer?
A lot of things are in flux this summer for the New Orleans Pelicans as new Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, David Griffin, figures out the best course of action to get the team back into playoff contention in 2019-2020. The Anthony Davis trade and the pieces returned in that package will determine the shape the roster will take.
However, the Pelicans have some other things to figure out besides where to ship AD off to. As it stands, the team has 7 potential free agents that played at least a fairly significant role in the rotation this past season.
It’s difficult to really predict which of these players will still be on the roster come next fall, because a lot of decisions Griffin makes on this group of free agents hinges on whatever assets come back in trades, how the NBA Draft Lottery unfolds, etc.
However, what we can do is evaluate how these 7 players fit on a roster that is going to be looking for young, high-upside, future asset-type guys as the Pelicans shift into a likely rebuild. Based on this criteria alone, there are some decisions that seem to be pretty cut and dry regarding a few of these guys’ futures in New Orleans, and a couple that could go either way.
All of that said, let’s make the call on all 7 upcoming free agents for the New Orleans Pelicans.
