#1) 2019 first round draft pick

Okay, I hate to be the buzzkill, but this asset does come with an asterisk. The New York Knicks technically do not own the draft rights to Zion Williamson. They have the best mathematical chance of landing him, but that’s only at 14 percent. Which means, in the realm of optimism, they have an 86 percent chance of picking second or worse.

But for argument’s sake, let’s say the basketball gods smile down on the city of New York and bless the organization with the first overall pick. And if that does occur, why on Earth would they ever consider trading a player of Williamson’s potential? Hear us out. Or don’t and spite us for even thinking of such nonsense.

Or is it nonsense? As we know, the Knicks have quite a bit of cap space. Enough for two max contracts in fact, and with that, they have also the draft assets and young talent on their roster to construct a blockbuster trade. Even though Zion Williamson is from another planet, it’s conceivable to believe the Knicks would want to add in an established star with their two theoretical superstars.

If they do pursue Anthony Davis, this single asset trumps the entire competition. No one would be able to top this in any trade package, the only question is will the Knicks be willing to trade away Zion? When the Cavaliers landed first in the 2014 NBA Draft, they traded away their pick in a package centered around Kevin Love.

If you remember, Andrew Wiggins was considered a sure thing entering the NBA. He was labeled a generational talent, the type of player to lead an organization back to prominence. But he was traded because the Cavaliers frantically entered a short term, win-now mode. What’s to say the Knicks won’t enter next season with a similar mindset if they land Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving?

There’s a lot of hypotheticals, and what if’s here. What do you think? Would the Knicks be foolish to move Zion? Which assets do you think are valuable? Or not valuable? Let us know in the comments below!
