#3) There’s no appeasing Anthony Davis

It’s time to be honest with ourselves, Pelicans fans. There’s no bringing Anthony Davis back. The organization has made significant personnel changes, informing players of the team that they are serious about future success. That has not made Anthony Davis budge. They won the NBA Draft lottery, still, nothing.

Here’s what we know about Davis. He’s a franchise-altering talent, he’s capable of putting stats that are comparable to NBA legends before him, and he’s one of the greatest power forwards of all-time entering his prime. Here’s the primary issue: he does not want to be a New Orleans Pelican.

It’s tough to see a player of his magnitude leave, there’s still that glimmer of hope he changes his mind. What a dynamic duo he would be with Zion Williamson. You can envision the highlight reel now. But, that’s not the reality for this team.

And that’s okay! It really is. Winning the lottery allows the Pelicans to hit the reset button. The Davis era did not bring about any sustained success, and that’s not his fault as an individual, there were plenty of factors. It’s impossible to erase the hardships of the past several years.

So, he wants to move on and try something new. Let him. Anthony Davis, as we know, is worth a hefty sum on the open market. With his departure, the team will be in a position to build for the future.
