#1) A rebuild around Zion is too appealing

The New Orleans Pelicans own two of the hottest commodities in the NBA. Zion Williamson was sought over by multiple franchises, all of which were crushed when their lottery card flipped over prematurely, taking them out of the running. But that’s not the only hot commodity the team owns. As we have become all too aware with, there’s a chance the team trades Anthony Davis.

There’s a multitude of teams that have expressed interest in acquiring the disgruntled 26-year-old. Of them, a few have pursued more aggressively. Teams like the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics have entered the fray, amongst others. All of which have appealing packages in their own rights.

David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans have remained patient in their Davis negotiations. Informing the remainder of the NBA that they will await the best possible package.

David Griffin, before becoming VP of basketball operations in New Orleans, expressed what he would look for in a trade for Davis. In summary, he would want a player that was projected to be a star, a strong role player, and draft picks. The Boston Celtics have similar assets, and we ranked what they could offer the Pelicans in an article, here.

There’s also the chance the Knicks package their third pick and other assets for the services of Davis. That could potentially reunite former Duke teammates, R.J Barrett, and Zion, Williamson. Whatever the outcome, expect Griffin to pull off a trade that puts the Pelicans in the best position possible moving forward.
