2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 2.0 – Pelicans take Zion; who goes next?
#11. Minnesota Timberwolves: Romeo Langford, G
School: Indiana | Class: Freshman | Height: 6’6″ | Weight: 202 | Age: 19
In a disappointing 2018-2019 campaign for the Timberwolves that started in October with locker-room turmoil centered around now-Philadelphia 76er Jimmy Butler, Minnesota continues to search for an identity that has been absent during the Karl-Anthony Towns era. With a coaching vacancy and question marks virtually at every position outside of Center, the Timberwolves will need to take the “best player available” approach.
Since point guard Jeff Teague’s game will continue to decline and Derrick Rose better served as a sixth man, Minnesota would be wise to select Romeo Langford if he’s available. The Indiana Hoosier, Langford, has a nice handle and can get the shot he’s looking for on most occasions; however, he will need to improve his three-point range. In 32 games for Indiana, Langford shot a troublesome 27 percent from behind the arc. Still, even without a reliable jumper, his ability to penetrate could potentially create more opportunities for Towns to finish at the rim.
Langford drew criticism for being the face of Indiana’s disappointing season in which the storied program failed to make the NCAA tournament. I wouldn’t anticipate the team’s overall success being a justifiable reason to pass on the talented guard. It certainly didn’t stop Ben Simmons from going No. 1 overall, and the same will apply to Langford as a potential lottery pick.
