2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 2.0 – Pelicans take Zion; who goes next?
#15. Detroit Pistons: Kevin Porter Jr., G
School: Southern California | Class: Freshman | Height: 6’6″ | Weight: 217 | Age: 19
The Detroit Pistons are slotted at #15 this year and represent the first pick outside of the lottery. As a team, they had a season to be proud of as they sneaked into the playoffs as the 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. However, they then ran into the brick wall that is the Milwaukee Bucks and got bounced out of the postseason before you could say “Blake Griffin won a rigged dunk contest.”
Griffin alongside rebounding monster Andre Drummond are the only truly exciting players on this roster, and they’re each locked up for the foreseeable future in the Motor City. Outside of these two guys, the Pistons need help pretty much everywhere, particularly at the guard and wing positions.
This is where Kevin Porter Jr. could come in handy for Detroit. At 6’6,” he’s the right size to play a combination of positions and could be plugged in to help the Pistons in a few different areas. He’s a dynamic player that could be incredibly exciting to watch alongside Blake Griffin, and he could pick up a lot of good habits from Griffin as well if Blake is willing to take Porter under his wing.
Porter Jr. has a prototypical NBA build and possesses the athleticism to turn into something special if he’s willing to put in the work to get there. There might be no better place than a grind-it-out city like Detroit for him to get to work and hone his craft.
