2019 NBA Draft: Full Mock Draft 2.0 – Pelicans take Zion; who goes next?
#16. Orlando Magic: Tyler Herro, G
School: Kentucky | Class: Freshman | Height: 6’5″ | Weight: 195 | Age: 19
Since the Dwight Howard era concluded in Orlando in 2012, the franchise has struggled to find a real identity, thus, finding themselves in the lottery year after year. The 2018-2019 Orlando Magic finally took a significant step in the right direction under the leadership of head coach Steve Clifford. Finishing the campaign with a 42-40 record — best for the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference — Orlando battled the Toronto Raptors and were ultimately defeated in five games.
The summer of 2019 will be crucial for the Magic as they look to build upon the momentum and development of their roster. With the 16th pick, look for Orlando to target Kentucky guard Tyler Herro. Herro, one of the best shooters in the nation, averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while playing in all 37 games for the Wildcats. Orlando ranked No. 13 in the Association all season in three-point percentage; Herro will help them improve upon that number and overall scoring as he shot an impressive 46% from the field, 93% from the free-throw line, and made 35% from behind the arc.
While Herro possesses a load of talent, he will have to shake shooting inconsistencies and overcome average athleticism. Orlando will have no issue starting Evan Fournier as a steady backcourt presence while Herro improves off the bench as a rookie.
