The Los Angeles Clippers could emerge as a dark horse favorite to land New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis. Let’s take a look and rank their trade assets.

David Griffin, and now newly anointed general manager Trajan Langford, have their work cut out in front of them. They are faced with the challenge of obtaining the best possible package for Anthony Davis. It may sound intimidating, but the New Orleans Pelicans are in good hands with them orchestrating a deal of this caliber.

The other organization part of this hypothetical scenario, the Los Angeles Clippers, are entering this offseason as potential buyers. With significant cap space made readily available, they could pursue big name free agents. And with a loaded free agency class this summer, they could leave this offseason as a championship contending favorite. If they do land a superstar in free agency, for example, Kawhi Leonard, who’s been attached to the Clippers organization all season—why shouldn’t they attempt to form a dynamic tandem with the likes of Davis?

With Davis and Leonard on board, the Clippers could become a legitimate free agent destination for other stars (if they aren’t already). It’s noteworthy that there is another team in Los Angeles that has cap space, but let’s be honest, they aren’t the most appealing destination at the moment. With a competent front office and a revered head coach, the Clippers represent the best landing spot in Los Angeles (sorry, Lakers fans).

The team did well last season, earning an unexpected playoff berth with a 48-34 record. A huge part to do with their success was their team-first mentality and strong play from their core pieces. It would be understandable for Clippers fans too not want to part ways with their core players, but for a trade of this magnitude, it would be mandatory. Let’s look at their top 5 assets.
