#2) 2021 Unprotected first round pick (Miami)

It’s hard to believe that Philadelphia gave up this asset for the expiring contract of Tobias Harris. But they did, it happened. This draft asset now lies in the ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers, but that is subject to change if the Clippers pursue Davis.

This pick has the legitimate opportunity of being amazing. The Miami Heat finished last year with a record of 39-43. But man, oh man, it could get a whole lot worse for the Heat in the immediate future. Currently, they reside in the confines of a salary cap nightmare. It’s likely that they attempt to escape out of some of their horrendous contracts, which would result in the upheaval of their roster.

Making it very conceivable that they are going to be a bad team for the next couple of seasons. Which would result in this pick landing in the lottery, and with no protections on it, it’s value could be astronomical. Could this result in the next generational talent? Could a future 20-year-old Zion Williamson welcome in a fellow franchise-altering talent? I’m salivating at the mouth.

If this pick enters negotiations, it could be a difference maker, history has shown it has been in prior trades. Let me provide you with a brief history lesson. This pick started out in Miami, moved to Phoenix, they sent it to Philadelphia who then sent it to Los Angeles (via Evan Sidery of SB Nation). Here’s hoping the Pelicans are the 4th owners of this golden ticket.
