Pelicans Rumors: Top 5 Los Angeles Clippers assets in an Anthony Davis trade
By Nolan Jensen
#1) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has demonstrated throughout his rookie campaign what a future star he might become. The 20-year-old Kentucky product can play. He stands in at 6’6 and weighs 181 pounds. He needs to put on some mass, but that’s not a major concern. There are multiple examples of leaner athletes in the NBA bulking up as their career progresses ( I mean look at Giannis, he’s a demi-god, but still, just don’t venture into Kemp territory).
Gilgeous-Alexander played in all 82 games as a rookie this season, averaging 10.8 points, 3.3 assists, and 1.2 steals on 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from three. He’s versatile offensively, can score with ease and has great playmaking abilities. Those aforementioned abilities were on full display as the season progressed. For the month of April, he averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals on 51 percent from the field in the 31.0 minutes of action he saw.
He had a couple of solid outings in the first round of the playoffs against the defending champions, Golden State Warriors, as well. In Game 4, he delivered 25 points on 60 percent shooting, and in Game 6 he scored 22 points on 57 percent.
For as good as his offensive game has been down the stretch, he’s been almost equally impressive defensively. Using his length, he can disrupt the flow of the opposition’s offensive approach. He’s active on that end and plays passing lanes well. However, he will need to put on size as we mentioned to hang with the more physical guards in the league.
The potential of having him on a roster with Zion is appealing. Clippers fans might be against the trade, and rightfully so. But if they aggressively pursue Davis, expect David Griffin and Trajan Langdon to try and land the rookie sensation.
