When Anthony Davis‘ trade demand went public this January, the Lakers were quick to offer the New Orleans Pelicans a trade package centered around their young core. The Pelicans ultimately decided against it, but could both parties revisit trade negotiations? If so, here’s a list compiled of the Lakers best assets, ranked in reverse order.

Alright, Pelicans fans, you may be heavily against this one. The Los Angeles Lakers represent everything evil in this life, I get it. But, they do own alluring assets, and if recent memory serves any indicator, they’re not afraid to part ways with them if it means landing the services of New Orleans Pelicans’ star Anthony Davis.

Quite a bit has transpired since the two franchises engaged in trade talks. The New Orleans Pelicans fired resident GM, Dell Demps, which lead to the hiring of current GM Trajan Langdon, hired a new VP of Basketball Operations in David Griffin, hired a new head of training staff, Aaron Nelson, and landed the first overall selection in this year’s draft.

That’s a whole lot of good things in just a short span of time (unfortunately the same could not be said for the Lakers organization). But, one aspect surrounding the team has remained constant—Anthony Davis does not want to be here. And at this point, it’s not crazy to think that his decision might not even be basketball related. Or there’s also the prospect that he has acknowledged the drastic changes the Pelicans have made but views the damage done between him and the team irremediable.

Perhaps he has his heart set out on a larger market where he can establish his own brand. Perhaps he wants to live out a dream of playing alongside LeBron James, there have been a few signs that may make one think that. He signed with James’ agent, Rich Paul, just before the 2018/19 season, and with his new representation, demanded a trade out of the Big Easy seemingly just in time for a playoff run in LA. The Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis have been attached to the hip since the trade demand and for good reason. Or maybe I’m reaching for something that isn’t there.

But should the Pelicans accommodate Davis if all this is true? David Griffin is not one to let personal vendettas interfere with business ventures. The Lakers still uphold very intriguing assets, and if he and Langdon feel their package puts them in the best possible spot for the future, they will pull the trigger. Let’s revisit the Lakers assets, ranking them from worst to best.
