Pelicans Rumors: 2nd Round NBA Draft prospects from ACC and MWC
By Cody Taylor
Tyus Battle: Guard, Syracuse, Junior
The Syracuse Orange Junior averaged 17/3/2 on 43.1% from the field and 32.1% from three point range. Battle has a good sense of the game and knows where his teammates are, being able to get the ball to the right man when his lane to the bucket collapses. He has a good feel from all levels, especially mid-range, though it would benefit him to improve his consistency in this regard.
He does have a good sense on defense with 1.2 steals per game that could get better even over time. I believe Tyus Battle could fit in either guard spot because of his value on both ends, but I think with his less-than-spectacular ball handling, he would fit the two-guard spot better as a backup to Jrue Holiday. His development might hinge on the improvement of his ball-handling skills, shooting consistency , and limiting turnovers (1.8 per game last season).
The New Orleans Pelicans could use a gritty, “get-a-bucket” type of player like Tyus Battle. These are types of players that will always have a place in the NBA.
We will not have to wait much longer to see what the New Orleans Pelicans do in the 2019 NBA Draft since it’s now less than a month away. As more non-Zion related Targets continue to pop up, count on Pelican Debrief to keep you up to speed on each player.
