Pelicans Rumors: Can Nets top Lakers, Celtics, Knicks for Anthony Davis?
What the Brooklyn Nets could offer
Simply wanting to trade for Anthony Davis isn’t enough. The Brooklyn Nets will have to pony up a king’s ransom in order for the New Orleans Pelicans to take them seriously. Assuming the team doesn’t want to lose out on D’Angelo Russell’s services as he enters restricted free agency this summer, what else could they put on the table?
The idea that’s been floating around the most is a trade that looks like the one that Fletcher Mackel lays out below:
Brooklyn giving up 5 players and 3 first round picks is steep, but there is a price to pay in order to craft a Big Three as massive as the desired D-Lo, Kyrie, AD combination.
The missing piece from this trade is Caris LeVert, the young wing from the University of Michigan. LeVert missed significant time this last season due to injury, but when healthy, he was phenomenal for the Nets, including during their playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. Brooklyn would love to keep him on this new roster as their most important role player. Still, even without him in this deal, the Nets have plenty to offer.
Spencer Dinwiddie has improved greatly the last couple years and would fit nicely with Jrue Holiday in the backcourt. Jarrett Allen is a shot blocking monster and could instantly start at the 5 for New Orleans. Joe Harris was the best three point shooter in the league this season and would have tons of value for the Pels as well.
This scores the New Orleans Pelicans a likely starting lineup of Spencer Dinwiddie, Jrue Holiday, Joe Harris, Zion Williamson, and Jarrett Allen, which is a dynamic, young enough, promising lineup. Kurucs and Musa could see plenty of action off the bench, while Brooklyn’s two first rounders in the 2019 NBA Draft (#17 and #27) would add some more depth and future potential to the team.
All in all, there’s a lot to be intrigued by here.
